Students are strongly discouraged from bringing any personal belongings to school. In particular, cellular telephones, iPods, and other personal devices are often lost by students and prove to be tempting targets for thieves. We provide all of the instructional supplies that students need in their classes including laptops and IPads. William Taylor Learning Centre and George Wood Learning Centre are “away for the day” schools, which means students must not use their personal device during school.
At William Taylor Learning Centre, we provide hot breakfast, lunch and snacks and there are no fees for our breakfast and lunch program. Therefore, students do not need to bring outside food or drinks. Please connect with your child’s classroom team to discuss food preferences, sensitivities and allergies.
While the school administration and our resource officer will discuss personal property losses with students, the school expresses no responsibility to conduct an investigation of circumstances surrounding these losses. In bringing non-essential personal property to school, students accept all associated risks. If these devices are being used or distracting students during the instructional school day, they will be confiscated and returned to the students at the end of the school day.
Students who bring personal electronic devices to school will be required to securely store them with a staff member. This is a unique school rule in our therapeutic learning environment as it is necessary to protect the confidentiality of our student and develop safety for all our students
Care of Personal Property
The school is not responsible for the loss or damage of personal property. Students are advised to leave items of value at home.
Lost & Found
Students are advised to check in the office for any items that may have been turned in. Items not claimed by the end of the school year will be donated.
Bicycles
We certainly encourage active living practices with children such as riding a bicycle to school. Upon arrival at the school and for the safety of all students, cyclists are expected to walk bicycles on school grounds during school hours. When bicycles are brought to school they should be locked in the bicycle rack provided. The school cannot be responsible for bicycles damaged or stolen while they are at school.
