Wood's Homes is a community owned and operated children's mental health centre based in Calgary. With a staff complement of 350 we provide 34 programs and services for at-risk children, youth and their families.
Wood's Homes is recognized in the community and across Canada, for its innovative services. We are a place of trust, where all young people and their families (regardless of the difficulty) can turn to for help. We strongly believe that families are the backbone of a community. When families are in trouble, children suffer. Helping young people reach adulthood, achieve their potential and become productive members of the community must be one of society's top priorities.

One of the key values of Wood's Homes is that of partnership – establishing a connection with others in order to provide better, more accessible and more immediate service to children, families and communities. Woods Homes has partnered with the Calgary Board of Education where Woods provides clinical and behavioral support within the school environment. Two schools are located on Woods Homes campuses (William Taylor Learning Centre and George Wood Learning Centre).
William Taylor Learning Centre
The William Taylor Learning Centre provides educational and therapeutic opportunities for students who have severe behavioural/mental health challenges.
The goal of WTLC is to support all students in maximizing their academic success through personalized, authentic learning opportunities which incorporates curricular modifications and instructional accommodations.
WTLC is focused on identifying and creating the conditions for success for students as unique learners and as members of their school and home communities. WTLC is a trauma sensitive learning environment. Classroom staff includes one CBE teacher and one Wood's school support counsellor. The student to staff ratio is 8:2.
Wood's Homes provides additional clinical services including a full-time therapist and a full-time family support worker. Families are also able to access additional therapeutic services offered through Wood's Homes. Hot breakfast is offered to the students.
The school was named after William Taylor. Through his estate, a gentleman by the name of William Taylor established a fund to assist in the education, including advanced education, of youth who have been cared for by Wood's Homes.
The William Taylor Learning Center is located at 805 - 37 St. N.W.
Calgary, AB T2N 4N8.
George Wood Learning Centre
The Calgary Board of Education partners with Wood's Homes. Wood's Homes offers a number of therapeutic campus-based treatment (TCBT) programs at different sites throughout the city. TCBT provide long-term intensive clinical treatment and academic programs to young people aged 12 to 18 in need of mental health support.
Treatment is provided for six months to one-and-a-half years. The George Wood Learning Centre provides educational and therapeutic opportunities for the students residing on Bowness Campus.
The George Wood Learning Centre is named after Reverend George Wood. He and his wife opened an orphanage for children in Alberta on the present site of the Bowness Campus of Woods Homes.
The George Wood Learning Centre is located at 9400 - 48 Ave. N.W. Calgary, AB T3B 2B2.

School Development Plan
Each year, our school prepares a development plan with input from teachers, school staff, students and parents. We review many sources of data, including report cards, provincial achievement test results and school surveys. Based on this information, we create our plan identifying targeted areas for growth. Our school development plan is not meant to represent all of the work that takes place in our school, but rather it focuses on specific areas for improvement.

School Improvement Results Report
Our school also prepares a results plan, which looks at our previous school year. It shows our students’ achievement and progress in meeting the goals and outcomes as set out by the CBE and Alberta Education, outlines some of the highlights of our school development plan and gives an overview of our school. You can look on the CBE website for system-wide results.
